Maverick Morning Show - Tom & Kurt

Wake up with the voices of Alamance County!

The Maverick Morning Show with Kurt and Tom isn’t some big corporate radio show broadcasting from a skyscraper in another state. We’re your neighbors, your friends and your Kinfolk. Every morning from 6am to 9am, we’re laser-focused on what matters right here in Alamance County — Burlington, Graham, Mebane, Elon and beyond.

From local news, weather and traffic every half hour, to conversations about hometown events, local businesses, schools, community happenings and the people who make this county special… this show is all about home. Add in fun conversations, plenty of laughs and the kind of country music you won’t hear anywhere else, and you’ve got mornings that feel real again.

The Maverick Morning Show is like sitting on the front porch with good friends, drinking a great cup of coffee, sharing stories, smiling big and starting the day together. Around here, listeners aren’t just listeners — they’re Kinfolk.

Live. Local. Radio.
The Maverick Morning Show with Chuck, Kurt and Tom.

Kurt Ward

Tom Britt

When Fox 8's Tom Britt arrived at the Maverick we knew we had been blessed with one of the top news men in the state, but we didn't realize we had also found a great morning show talent too! Tom is not just our meteorologist, he's also Weatherman! Tom is an integral part of the Maverick Morning Show team with Chuck and Leanne. When he's not on the radio, or updating us on the weather at Fox 8, Tom Britt can be found on one of Alamance County's many golf courses.

Chuck Marsh

Chuck Marsh is the Owner and Manager of Maverick Radio and one of the voices listeners wake up with every weekday morning. Chuck hosts mornings alongside Kurt and Tom from 6am to 9am, then keeps the Kinfolk company again from 10am to 2pm.

Chuck loves Alamance County, its small businesses, and the Kinfolk — the loyal Maverick listeners who make local radio feel like family.

He’s married to his wife, Rebecca — or as listeners often hear him say on the air, “the smokin’ hot Rebecca” — and together they have four awesome sons. Chuck also absolutely adores his grandbabies, and chances are you’ll hear a story or two about them on the radio.

huck is deeply passionate about promoting local businesses and supporting the community that supports Maverick Radio. He’s a big believer in keeping entertainment dollars local, which is one reason Maverick brings concerts, shows, and community events to Alamance County each year.

For Chuck, local radio is more than music. It’s about community, connection, and giving Alamance County something that truly belongs to the people who live here.

Alex Chinery

I’m Alex Chinery, but if you listen to The Maverick, you probably know me better as your buddy Al.

I’m behind the mic every weekday afternoon for The Afternoon Ride (2pm to 7pm), where we talk country music, what’s happening around Alamance County, and usually whatever else I find interesting enough to bring up that day.

When I’m not behind the mic, there’s a pretty good chance I’m out somewhere around town. I also handle sales and partnerships for The Maverick and The GOAT, working with local businesses to come up with ideas that actually get people talking. That might be something on the air, Friday night football, a community event, or something we haven’t even thought of yet.

That’s probably my favorite part of what I do. I get to know the people behind the businesses, be involved in the community, and then turn around and talk to that same community every afternoon.

Outside of radio, I’m a family guy, a country music nut, and somebody who probably spends way too much time thinking about the next big idea.

At the end of the day, I’m just glad you let me hang out with you every afternoon.

After all, around here, we’re all kinfolk.

Tyler Small - Nights with T

Tyler has been a fan of old time Country Music from listening to Maverick Radio when doing his school work. Whispering Bill Anderson is his favorite male singer, but Carrie Underwood outranks Whispering Bill. He has had opportunities to meet many Country Music singers, including both of his favs. Free time is spent working puzzles or Legos while listening to his favorite country music radio station The Maverick.

Comment from Chuck Marsh (owner of Maverick Radio) - "I met Tyler when he was super young, like maybe 7. He an I have been buds since and it's so awesome to have him doing radio with us now! I smile every time I hear him on on the radio. He's a super awesome young man. We love T, I call him Smalls (from my favorite movie - 1993 The Sand Lot)".

Cindy Baucom

For more than forty years, Cindy has pursued her passion for Bluegrass Music as an award winning broadcaster, producer, promoter, singer, musician, writer, photographer and MC. Her national radio show, “Knee-Deep In Bluegrass”, went into syndication in 2003 with distribution by the John Boy & Billy Radio Network. Now heard in over a hundred radio markets, Cindy uses her knowledge of the music and enthusiasm to entertain and educate the listeners of her show. Her radio career started at the age of seventeen at her hometown station, WKSK in West Jefferson, NC. Her radio work continued regionally over the next fifteen years at WKBC, North Wilkesboro, NC and WFMX, Statesville, NC, preparing her for her ultimate broadcasting goal of national syndication.

Cindy was elected to the Board of Directors of the International Bluegrass Music Association and served two, 3-year terms consecutively, including one year as the IBMA Board’s vice-chair. She was producer of the 2008, 2009 and 2010 IBMA Awards Show at the Ryman Auditorium, Nashville, TN.

Cindy has been involved with Merlefest since its beginning in 1988 and started serving as MC in 1990. Her MC work has taken her to a variety of stages and venues over the years.

She credits her early love for Bluegrass 100% to her father who played banjo, fiddle, guitar and mandolin and built stringed instruments. As a teenager she performed in a band with her dad and went on to work in other regional bands, singing and playing bass and guitar. She feels fortunate to have been presented the opportunities to promote the music she has loved all her life.
